Ferris State Men's Golf Climbs To Fifth With Strong Final Day At GLIAC Spring Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team climbed five spots in the standings on the final day of the 2015 GLIAC Spring Invitational to finish fifth overall on Sunday (April 19) at the Longaberger Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio.

The Bulldogs completed the two-day tournament with a 616 team score (+4) for the 36 holes of action on the par 72 course measuring 7,106 total yards.

A total of only 17 strokes seperated first thru fifth place as Lake Superior State won the field with a 599 team figure followed by Tiffin in second place at 602 overall. FSU shot 311 in round one before coming back with a 305 total on the final day of action.

Senior Chris Eaton paced the Bulldogs by finishing tied for 14th overall with a 151 score. He shot 77 in round one and then fired a two-over 74 score on Sunday while moving up 14 spots in the standings during the final round.

Teammate Zak Kiefer placed tied for 25th overall and jumped 19 spots after Sunday's round with a 154 tournament total. He posted a 79 in the first 18 holes of competition before coming back with a 75 to wrap up the event.

Junior Ben Cook got off to a slow start with an 82 in the opening round, but shot a one-over 73 in the last 18 holes to placed tied for 31st at 155 for the tournament. Cook bolted up the leaderboard 36 spots after the nine-stroke improvement.

The Bulldogs' Tyler Siech placed tied for 38th at 156 for the 36 holes. He shot a one-over 73 on Saturday and then totaled an 83 Sunday to finish +12 for the event.

 Freshman Seth Terpstra also competed and tied for 83rd with a 170 score. The rookie shot 83 in the first round and 87 in the final round of action.

A pair of Bulldogs also competed as individuals in the field. Ryan Bayer wound up tied for 44th with a 157 figure on rounds of 80 and 77 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Meanwhile, Jack Weller tied for 72nd overall at 164 with scores of 79 and 85 in the competition.

The tournament was FSU's final scheduled regular-season event of the spring. The Bulldogs will now await word on the official selections for the NCAA Regional Championships, which will be held May 4-6.
