Men's Golf Captures Team Championship At Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team started the spring season in a big way as the Bulldogs captured the team championship in the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff held in Florida.

The Bulldogs shot a three-round 920 team score in the event, which took place Thursday thru Saturday at the Saddlebrook Course and the Palmer Course in Wesley Chapel, Fla. 

After shooting a 313 figure in the first round of action, the Bulldogs came back with a 305 score on Friday followed by a 302 total in Saturday's final round. FSU finished 37 strokes ahead of runner-up Northern Michigan in the four-team field, which also included Ashland and Purdue-Northwest.

Ferris State's Thomas Hursey was the individual medalist as he shot a 215 total on rounds of 74, 71 and 70 to claim the individual crown. 

Hursey was followed by Daniel Shattuck, who came in third overall with a 232 figure on rounds of 80, 74 and 78 over the three rounds, respectively.

The Bulldogs' Tanner Moore finished fourth in the field with a 233 total on rounds of 81, 78 and 74 with Jason Martinus placing 10th at 240 with scores of 78, 82 and 80 in the event.

Finally, Trent Barth placed 16th with a 252 figure on rounds of 84, 88 and 80 overall.

The Bulldogs also had a pair of competitors compete individually with Nathan Kraynyk finishing second with a 226 total on rounds of 75, 68 and 83 along with Zach Gildner, who finished 13th at 247 with scores of 80, 79 and 88.

Ferris State is next slated to compete in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational set for March 14-15 in Georgetown, Ky.
