FSU Golf Recruits

Ferris State Men's Golf Signs Three Prep Standouts

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf program has reloaded once again as the Bulldogs have announced the addition of three talented prep student-athletes who inked with FSU during the fall signing period. The announcement was made by interim head coach Kylee Sullivan.

The Bulldogs signed prep standouts Shayne Beaufait (Wolverine Lake/Walled Lake Central), Zach Koerner (Laingsburg) and Cannon Risner (Leslie) this fall and they will join the FSU program for the fall 2021 campaign.

"We're excited about adding these three outstanding golfers to the Bulldog program and expect them to have bright futures at Ferris State," Sullivan said. "All three have been standouts on the prep level and have the ability to succeed on the collegiate level."

A Walled Lake Central High School product, Beaufait has been both an all-conference and all-academic honoree throughout his high school career under coach Mark Willard. He posted an impressive 74.6 tournament scoring average as a sophomore and has also played hockey as a prepster. Both his father and his uncle played collegiate hockey and his father, Mark, went on to play in both the National Hockey League and the Olympics following an impressive career at Northern Michigan where he won a NCAA Division 1 National Championship. Beaufait has also been a National Honor Society member and plans to major in finance at FSU.

Meanwhile, Koerner was a first-team all-state honoree for coach Greg Beavers at Laingsburg High School. He set a school record with a round of 69 and helped his team to the conference championship as both a freshman and sophomore. Along with golf, he's also competed in basketball and plans to major in FSU's Professional Golf Management program.

Finally, Risner is a two-time conference champion at Leslie High School where he's played for coach Reed Ebmeyer. He fired a nine-hole record with a 33 and has led Leslie to a pair of conference championships and a state qualifying berth. In addition to golf, he's also wrestled and played one year of prep soccer. He also plans to major in the Bulldogs' Professional Golf Management program.

Ferris State Golf has a long history of success with the Bulldogs having been represented in the NCAA Tournament 17-straight years prior to last season's cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 17-year stretch of NCAA Championship representation in men's golf ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country.
