Ferris State Closes Season-Opening Event With Third-Place Finish Of 17 Schools At Music City Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf squad closed out its season-opening action with a third-place finish at the Music City Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday (March 16) in Old Hickory, Tenn.

After posting a 294 score in the opening 18 holes of action on Monday, FSU finished the 36-hole event with a 287 total or seven strokes better in the final round to finish at 581 overall, which was good for a share of third place along with Ashland.

Overall, host Trevecca Nazarene took first place in the tournament at 569 overall with Northwood second at 577 in the 17-team field.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Thomas Hursey, who placed sixth overall with a 142 total on identical rounds of one-under, 71 each day.

FSU's Nathan Kraynyk and Trent Barth both came in tied for 25th overall as each shot a 147 score. They both shot two-over 74 on Monday followed by one-over par totals of 73 in the final round.

The Bulldogs' Daniel Shattuck lowered his score by eight strokes in the final 18 holes of play, finishing 37th in the field with a 148 score. He had shot a 78 in the first round before closing with a two-under par 70 score in the final round, which was one of the lowest scores of the day.

Finally, Mitchell Geik placed tied for 63rd for the Bulldogs with a 154 score on rounds of 75 and 79 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

The individual winner was Ashland's Beau Beryl, who shot 135 for the tournament with a first-round 68 score followed by the lowest scores of the tournament with a 67 in the final round.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday, March 20-21, as they take part in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational, which will be contested in Georgetown, Ky.
