Bulldog Men's Golf Closes SVSU Spring Invite With Third-Place Team Finish

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up action in the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational on Sunday (March 21) and came away with a third-place team effort at the event in Lexington, Ky.

The Bulldogs shot a two-round score of 583 (+7) to place third of 21 competing schools in the tournament, which was held at Kearney Hill Golf Links. 

After posting a 292 score in the first round on Saturday, FSU came back with a 291 team total on Sunday for a +3 effort over the final 18 holes of action. 

Overall, Grand Valley State placed first with a 571 score (-5) followed by Trevecca Nazarene with a 578 figure (+2). The Bulldogs were a shot better than fourth-place Hillsdale, which carded a 584 score (+8).

The Bulldogs were led by junior Thomas Hursey, who placed third in the field with a 141 score. He held the day one lead with a 68 and shot a one-over par 73 in the final round, finishing five shots off the leader.

FSU's Nathan Kraynyk also placed among the top five overall, placing tied for fifth with a 143 total. He fired a 73 as well on Sunday after a first-round 70 score.

The Bulldogs' Adam Madzri placed tied for 11th overall at 146 for the event with rounds of 75 on Saturday and 71 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Daniel Shattuck posted a 155 total on rounds of 79 and 76, respectively, to place tied for 72nd overall.

Finally, FSU's Trent Barth wound up tied for 90th with a 160 figure. He shot a first-round 86 before lowering his score by 12 strokes in the final round, coming in with a two-over par 74.

The Bulldogs will next be back in action on April 5-6 at the Cav Classic hosted by Walsh University in Canton, Ohio.
