Hursey Wins Medalist Honors As Ferris State Men's Golf Takes Third Place At Cav Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up action on Tuesday (April 6) with a third place team finish at the Cav Classic hosted by Walsh University in Canton, Ohio.

The Bulldogs, who held the first day lead following the opening two rounds of action, finished with a 874 figure (+10) for the 54-hole event at the Glenmoor Country Club. FSU shot a 282 score in round one followed by a 287 score in the middle round before closing with a 305 total on Tuesday.

In addition to the third-place finish as a team, the Bulldogs' Thomas Hursey was the individual medalist, finishing with a five-under par total of 211 for the tournament to edge Walsh University's Brandon Jatich by a single stroke. Hursey shot a 71 in the first round followed by back-to-back 70 scores the final two rounds.

Ferris State finished with three golfers in the top 10 overall as both Nathan Kraynyk and Joshua Jeffords placed tied for ninth overall. Each shot a 219 total. Jeffords had one of the tourney's top scores with a 69 in round one before finishing with scores of 72 and 78. Meanwhile, Kraynyk opened the tournament with a 74 and then shot a 70 in round two and a 75 in the final round.

FSU's Adam Madzri placed tied for 29th with a 230 total on scores of 72, 75 and 83 while Zach Gildner rounded out the Bulldog lineup in a share of 31st place at 231. He shot scores of 70, 79 and 82 over the three rounds of action on the 6,854-yard course.

Host Walsh won the event with a 868 score (+4), only six strokes in front of FSU, with Malone second at 872 overall (+8) in the 11-team event.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Bill Blazer Memorial set for April 9-10 in Pataska, Ohio.
