Big Rapids, Mich. - First-year Ferris State University men's and women's golf coach Sam Stark has reloaded his Bulldog roster for the future as FSU announced the signings of six talented prep additions who inked to play collegiate golf with the Bulldogs this past week.

The group includes a pair of prep men's standouts in Colin Beckett (Belmont/Northview) and Drayton Cleaver (Chanute, Kan.) in addition to four women's signees in Kamryn Shannon (Jackson/Michigan Center) along with Susie Gietl (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic), Morgan Seog (Hartland) and Taylor Musselman (Coldwater).

All six will join the Bulldog program as freshmen in the fall of 2022.

On the men's side, Beckett was a 2021 individual regional champion and placed among the top 10 in the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) sate finals. He was ranked #2245 in the nation by Junior Golf Scoreboard and is a National Honor Society member.

"Colin is a player with tremendous upside who's best golf is in front of him," said Stark. "He's also an excellent student and will bring quite a bit of athleticism to the squad."

Meanwhile, Cleaver ranked as one of the top standouts in Kansas, earned all-state first team honors in 2021 while garnering both league and regional championships. The captain of Chanute High School's soccer team, he also has served as senior class Vice President and editor of The Octave publication while being named to the National Honor Society.

"Drayton is a tireless worker and brings a contagious, positive attitude to everything that he chooses to take on," Stark said. "He's a leader at his school and in his community. He's also a two-sport athlete, which is a common theme in this class. He's another of those athletes who's best golf is still in front of him."

The women's class includes Shannon, who was the 2020 Michigan Division 4 Individual State Champion and the 2021 individual runner-up. The two-time all-state honoree was ranked #1649 in the country by Junior Golf Scoreboard.

"Kam is a grinder, and has an utter devotion to the game of golf," said Stark. "She has experienced an extremely successful career despite only taking up the game her freshman year of high school, with an individual state championship and an individual runner up to her credit. Her work ethic is off the charts, and we're thrilled to have her as a Bulldog."

Gietl has been tabbed as a 2020 and 2021 Southern Arizona Golf All-Star selection and earned an individual third-place finish at the 2021 AIA Division II Golf Championships. She's ranked #1548 in the country, according to Junior Golf Scoreboard.

"Susie's excitement level to join our program has been outstanding and she's ready to be a Bulldog," Stark said. "She's experienced quite a bit of success out West at the high school level, and her game will translate well to what our team likes to do on the golf course. She will bring great energy to our roster."

During her prep career, Seog has twice garnered all-county first team accolades at Hartland High School. She also was a member of the school's 2020 Michigan Division I Girls Soccer State Championship team.

"Morgan's pedigree as a three sport athlete, and a state champion goalkeeper, will translate well into focusing on golf, full-time," said Stark. "As with the rest of this class, her athleticism is through the roof and she was a leader for a well-regarded Hartland team throughout her career."

Finally, Musselman received MHSAA Division 3 All-State recognition in 2021 and was an academic all-state honoree. She also finished as the Interstate-8 Conference Champion.

"Taylor is a steady presence on and off the golf course," Stark said. "Being named academic all-state is an extremely impressive feat, and she's validated that with back-to-back strong finishes on the course at the Division 3 State Finals. I know she will be a leader in all facets for our program."

The Ferris State University men's and women's golf programs both have a long history of success. This past spring marked the 18th-straight year in which the Bulldogs have had representation in the NCAA Men's Golf Tournament, which ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country. The Bulldogs captured the 2021 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship and also finished fifth overall in the women's field at this past spring's conference championships.
