Ferris State Starts Spring Season In North Carolina Men's Golf Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team began its spring season with a 13th place finish in a large field at the BrownGolf Intercollegiate tournament, which wrapped up on Saturday at the Foxfire Resort & Golf in Jackson Springs, N.C.

The Bulldogs shot a two-round 623 team figure in the 36-hole event, which began Friday but was concluded on Saturday after darkness forced the stoppage of day one competition. Overall, FSU shot a 298 score in the opening round before closing with a 325 to finish at +47 for the event.

FSU was paced by Shayne Beaufait, who shot a 147 total for eighth place overall or +3 for the competition while competing as an individual. He fired a first-round 71 score followed by a 76 in round two.

The Bulldogs' Thomas Hursey finished tied for 16th with a 149 total on rounds of 72 and 77 over the two days, respectively.

Ferris State's Joshua Jeffords placed tied for 56th individually at 158 overall, shooting rounds of 77 and 81 over the stretch.

The Bulldogs' Zach Koerner also tied for 56th with a 158 mark, posting scores of 73 in round one and a 85 in the second round.

Meanwhile, Nathan Kraynyk came in tied for 64th in the field with scores of 76 in round one and 84 in the second round for a 160 total.

FSU's Trent Barth tied for 82nd in the field at 163 for the tournament, firing a 80 in round one and an 83 in the second round.

The Bulldogs next compete in the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational set for March 19-20 in Lexington, Ky.
