Ferris State Men's Golf Sits Second Following Opening Day At The Cav Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team got off to a strong start and currently sits second overall after day one action on Monday (April 4) at The Cav Classic being played at the Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio.

The participants played the opening round of the 36-hole event and began round two, which will finish up on Tuesday with only a handful of golfers still finishing up their second rounds of action.

The Bulldogs shot a second-place tying 299 team score in the first round are currently at one-under for the second round, which is only three strokes off the pace set by host Walsh University with the final holes still to be played.

FSU's Thomas Hursey is the individual leader in the field thru 17 holes of round two as he shot a first-round 71 and is currently four under for the second round, maintaining a three-stroke advantage atop the leaderboard.

The Bulldogs' Andrew Proctor carded a 74 in round one with the trio of Joshua Jeffords, Zach Koerner and Nathan Kraynyk all posting 77 scores.

Presently, in round two, Kraynyk is 11th overall after shooting even-par 72 in the second round with Jeffords and Proctor both tied for 12th. Jeffords notched a one-over 73 in the second round while Proctor fired a four-over 76 figure.

Finally, Koerner is currently tied for 14th place in the field with two holes remaining, shooting two-over for the second round and presently at seven-over for the tournament.

The Bulldogs also have a pair of golfers competing as individuals with Jason Martinus tied for 24th overall and Zach Gildner tied for 38th. Martinus shot a 77 in both rounds while Gildner came back with a 74 in round two after carding a 85 in the first round of competition.

The action is slated to wrap up on Tuesday morning.
