Men's Golf Finishes Fifth Overall At Season-Opening Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team finished fifth overall in its first competition of the season as play wrapped up on Monday (Sept. 5) at The Arendsen Invitational in Allendale.

The Bulldogs shot a 305 team score in Monday's final 18 holes of action, finishing the event at 903 overall or +51 for the three rounds. FSU previously carded a 300 in round one and a 298 in round two during Sunday's first 36 holes on the par 71 course measuring 7,034 yards at The Meadows Golf Club. The event was hosted by Grand Valley State.

GVSU took first place overall at 848 (-4) with Findlay second (876) followed by Northwood (893) and Ashland (896) in front of FSU. A total of 12 schools took part in the field.

Ferris State was paced by Zach Koerner, who finished tied for 10th overall with a 220 figure. He shot a 72 in the final round on Monday.

Behind Koerner was Shayne Beaufait in a share of 35th place with a 229 score following his final-round 77 figure. Both Caleb Bond and Daniel Shattuck tied for 37th overall with scores of 230. Bond carded a 75 in the final round while Shattuck finished with an 81. FSU's Trent Barth also shot an 81 in the final round and finished tied for 54th with a 235 total.

FSU also had three golfers compete individually with Nathan Kraynyk posting a 227 for a share of 27th place on the leaderboard after closing with a two-over par 73 on Monday. Zach Gildner tied for 64th overall at 237 for the tournament following his 79 in the final round while Colin Beckett finished tied for 77th in the field at 242 overall, closing with an 85 in the final round.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Sept. 19-20 at the Doc Spragg Invitational hosted by the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.
