Bulldog Men's Golf Moves Up To Ninth After Round Two At NCAA Super Regional

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team stayed within reach in the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Super Regional following day two play on Friday (May 9) at the St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Mo.

Ferris State notched a second-round 290 team score, lowering its total by 10 strokes over the first round in the 54-hole event. Overall, FSU is only six shots out of third place in the 20-team field, sitting at 590 thru two rounds.

Currently, Central Oklahoma holds the day two lead with a 572 total followed by Saginaw Valley State (583), Arkansas Tech (584) and Findlay (584) going into the final round of play.

Eight of the top nine teams the leaderboard are currently featured among the nation's top 50 teams this year in the national rankings, including FSU.

A trio of Bulldogs currently sit 20th overall on the leaderboard as Zach Koerner, Kole Putnam and McCoy Biagioli each are four-over par after two rounds of play at 146 for the tournament. Putnam shot a 75 in round one and a 71 in round two while Koerner has notched back-to-back rounds of 73 thus far. Biagioli shot a 76 in the first round, but came back with a 70 in the second 18 holes of action.

The Bulldogs' Drayton Cleaver is currently tied for 75th overall with a 152 score, notching rounds of 76 each of the first two days. Finally, Sam Havey is 105th at 162 for the tournament on rounds of 83 Thursday and 79 on Friday.

The final round of play is set for Saturday (May 10).

The Midwest/Central Regional is being hosted by the St. Joseph Sports Commission and Missouri Western University and consists of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the Central Region. Four individuals from each region are also competing in the 54-hole tournament.

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals set for May 19-23 at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

This year makes this the 20th time in the past 22 years in which the Bulldogs have had representation in the NCAA Tournament when it has been held. The stretch of NCAA Championship representation in men's golf ranks as one of the best stretches in the country.
