Bio

Dr. Phil Walling (known as “Doc” by the golfers) has been coaching on the Ferris State men's and women's golf staff since 1999.

He has coached in over 150 tournaments with the men’s and women’s teams on golf courses all over the Midwest including Regional, Super Regional and National Championships.  One of Doc’s many highlights includes coaching the team at the NCAA Super Regional in Joplin, Mo., in 2007.  The team shot a then record-setting three day total of 864 (290-284-290) and won the regional by 17 strokes.

Currently, he still travels with the team in a reduced capacity, focusing more on supervising and coordinating special fundraising events for the teams.

Walling has also been a Professor at Ferris State University’s Michigan College of Optometry since 1994 where he teaches in the area of Ocular Disease.  Dr. Walling has won Professor of the Year honors through the Michigan Optometric Association three times in his career.  In addition, he is the Chief of Medical and Surgical Services at the University Eye Center.

He and his wife, Jean, currently live in Canadian Lakes.
