Big Rapids, Mich. – In Ferris State Hockey's annual Crimson and Gold intrasquad scrimmage, Team Crimson defeated Team Gold 2-0 behind a goal and an assist from senior defenseman Simon Denis on Saturday (Oct. 3) evening inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

In an abbreviated scrimmage with only two 12-minute periods, junior forward Jared VanWormer scored for the Crimson at 1:17 of the second frame before Denis added an insurance tally during a power play period late in the contest.

The Crimson squad led in shots on net for the game with 23 tries to the Gold's 18.

Freshman goaltender Darren Smith got the start for Crimson and made eight stops while redshirt junior Charles Williams stopped seven shots in between the pipes for Gold.

After the first period came to a close with a 0-0 tie, the Crimson deployed senior Ruben Medrano, who made 11 stops during the second to earn the victory.

Junior Trace Pennock played the final period for the Gold, making 15 saves.

VanWormer's goal was set up by Denis, who factored in both scores during the game. The final strike came on the power play with assists to junior forward Gerald Mayhew and freshman forward Corey Mackin.
