Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team won its third consecutive home Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) contest with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves on Friday night (Dec. 1) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Junior defenseman Jacob Hetz netted the game-winning goal for Ferris State while sophomore goaltender Justin Kapelmaster made 22 stops for his first shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs outshot the Seawolves 21-5 in the opening frame, but couldn't crack UAA goaltender Olivier Mantha in the first.

Ferris State finally cashed in at 13:49 of the second period when Hetz scored his first of the year on a slapshot from the blue line through traffic that beat Mantha high. Junior forward Corey Mackin picked up his 10th assist of the year on the play while senior forward Andrew Dorantes tallied his seventh.

The Bulldogs capped the scoring less than three minutes later when junior forward Trevor Recktenwald rifled a shot over the shoulder of Mantha for a 2-0 lead at 16:27 of the second for his first of the season with Andrew Dorantes picking up his second assist of the game and eighth of the year.

Kapelmaster made 10 third-period shots to preserve the first Bulldog shutout of the 2017-18 season. Meanwhile, Mantha made 46 stops for the Seawolves and took the loss.

Neither team struck on special teams, as both teams went 0-of-3 on the man-advantage with both taking four penalties for eight minutes.

Ferris State returns to action Saturday (Dec. 2) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in search of its second consecutive WCHA home sweep. Puck drop between the Bulldogs and the Seawolves is set for 7:37 p.m. (ET).
