Ferris State Suffers Setback In Series Opener At Northern Michigan

Marquette, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell by a 6-1 final to the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday (Dec. 15) at the Berry Events Center.

Ferris State senior forward Andrew Dorantes scored the lone goal for Ferris State, his third in three games.

The Wildcats opened up a 2-0 lead early, as NMU's Robbie Payne and Adam Rockwood scored power play goals. Payne's came at 5:41 of the first, while Rockwood's came at 55 seconds of the second period.

Dorantes fired in his fourth of the year on the power play at 3:38 of the second period on the man advantage to cut the Wildcat lead to 2-1.

Despite a five-minute power play, the Bulldogs were unable to even the contest. The Wildcats scored four in a row to finish the game. Sophomore defenseman Cameron Clarke earned his third assist of the year on the play, while freshman forward Marshall Moise tallied his first for his first collegiate point.

NMU's Jordan Klimek scored back-to-back, first at 9:34 of the second on the power play, and next even strength at 15:39 of the second.

Northern Michigan's Payne notched his second of the night and 15th of the year at 49 seconds of the third, while defenseman Phillip Beaulieu scored at 4:43 of the final period for the final 6-1 edge.

The Wildcats went 3-of-8 on the power play, while the Bulldogs went 1-of-3. The Wildcats outshot the Bulldogs 37-15 for the night.

Ferris State looks to earn the split on Saturday (Dec. 16) at the Berry Events Center against NMU at 7:07 p.m. (ET).
