Ferris State Falls In Weekend Series Finale Against #19 Bowling Green

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 3-0 to the nationally #19 Bowling Green State Falcons on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 7) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State junior goaltender Darren Smith made 24 saves on 26 shots faced as the Falcons netted an empty net goal for insurance.

BGSU's Mitch McLain opened the scoring with his ninth goal of the season at 6:00 of the second period with assists from Brandon Kruse and Alec Rauhauser for a 1-0 Falcon lead.

The Falcons advanced it to a 2-0 lead at 18:09 of the middle frame when Lukas Craggs scored a power play goal for his seventh of the season from Connor Ford and Kruse.

McLain added a shorthanded empty-net goal on a 150-foot clearing attempt for his 10th of the year and second of the game unassisted.

BGSU sophomore goaltender Ryan Bednard made 27 saves for a shutout for the victory.

Ferris State struggled on the man advantage going 0-of-7 with just eight shots while the Falcons went 1-of-4 on three shots for the night.

Ferris State hits the road to take on the Lake Superior State Lakers on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 12-13, with a pair of 7:07 pm (ET) puck drops in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. FSU then returns home for two league home series' on the final two weekends in January.
