Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State university men's ice hockey team fell in a tough 4-3 overtime loss to the nationally #12 ranked Bowling Green State Falcons at Ewigleben Ice Arena on Friday (Dec. 12) in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.

The Bulldogs got out to a 1-0 lead on Mackin's first of the game and third of the season from Zech (10) and Kallen (11) on a drag move at the bottom of the right circle before snapping a wrist shot past BGSU goaltender Eric Dop.

Bowling Green scored twice to take a 2-1 lead, first at 16:58 of the first when Lukas Craggs scored, followed by Max Johnson at 21 seconds of the second period.

Later, at 12:31 of the second, Mackin went coast-to-coast, stopped in the corner, curled to the middle and outskated a pair of Falcon defenders before lifting a backhander on goal that Dop initially snagged, before Mackin popped a juggling puck out of his glove and over him into the cage to knot the game at 2-2. Kallen (12) and Zech (11) picked up their second assists of the game each.

In the third, junior forward Lucas Finner gave the Bulldogs the lead with his second goal of the weekend at 1:09 on the power play from junior defensemen Cameron Clarke (6) and Joe Rutkowski (3) for a 3-2 Bulldog lead.

The Falcons scored the next two, with Brandon Kruse evening the game at 3-3 at 2:39 of the third period before Alex Barber won it in overtime at 25 seconds of the overtime period.

It was the second straight game and third in four that Ferris State played into overtime.

Ferris State freshman goaltender Roni Salmenkangas made 23 saves for the Bulldogs and took the loss while Dop picked up the win for BGSU on 19 saves.

The Bulldogs make the trek north to Marquette to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday (Dec. 14) starting at 7:07 p.m. (ET) at the Berry Events Center.
