Bemidji State Tops Ferris State To Earn Win In WCHA Weekend Finale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team dropped a 6-1 setback to the Bemidji State Beavers on Saturday (Feb. 9) in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.

Ferris State junior defenseman Nate Kallen scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs, his sixth of the season.

The Beavers scored five-straight to open the game, first at 3:04 of the first when Owen Sillinger tallied his first of two in the game to give BSU a 1-0 edge.

Later, at 19:33 of the opening frame, Justin Baudry gave the Beavers a 2-0 advantage on the power play and followed it up with another at 2:25 of the second with an extra attacker on due to a delayed penalty.

Bemidji State made it 4-0 on the ensuing power play when Jay Dickman scored his sixth of the season at 3:19 of the second frame. The Beavers then found the net shorthanded at 9:00 of the second period when SIllinger scored his second to make it 5-0 in the game.

For Ferris State, Kallen tipped in a redirected shot by junior forward Dominic Lutz, who picked up his third assist of the year, while redshirt junior forward Jasen Fernsler earned his first.

The Beavers finished the scoring at 19:08 of the second when Tyler Vold made it 6-1.

Bemidji State outshot Ferris State 27-25 and went 2-6 on the power play. The Bulldogs finished 0-3 on the man advantage.

For Ferris State, junior goaltender Justin Kapelmaster was relieved after 23:19 after allowing four goals on 15 shots. Freshman netminder Roni Salmenkangas made 10 saves on 12 shots in the final 36:41. Zach Driscoll made 24 saves in the win for Bemidji State in goal.

The Bulldogs travel to Anchorage to take on the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Friday (Feb. 15) at the Sullivan Center at 11:07 p.m. (ET) as the two teams open a WCHA series.
