Bulldogs Fight To Come Back, But Fall to Lakers On Saturday

Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team made a late charge, but fell 4-3 to the Lake Superior State Lakers on Saturday (Nov. 2) at Taffy Abel Arena in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.

The Lakers got on the board first when Collin Saccoman finished a chance on the power play to make it 1-0 Lakers at 13:45 of the second period.

The lead lasted 15 seconds, as Ferris State Freshman forward Dallas Tulik came in on a breakaway and picked up his own rebound, cashing in for his first collegiate goal at 14:00 of the second frame. Sophomore forward Hunter Wendt (3) and freshman defenseman Jake Willets (6) picked up assists on the play.

The Lakers responded with three straight goals. Louis Boudon scored at 18:24 of the second period, followed by Collin Saccoman at 4:05 of the third on the power play. Pete Veillete capped the run at 9:04 of the third period for a 4-1 Laker lead.

However, at 15:48 of the third period, Tulik scored his second of the game and season to pull the Bulldogs back within two from senior defenseman Zach Yoder (2) and freshman forward Brenden MacLaren (1).

The Bulldogs headed to the power play where freshman defenseman Blake Evennou scored his first collegiate goal to pull the Bulldogs back within one with their own net empty. Willets (7) and senior defenseman Nate Kallen (3) picked up the assists on the play.

Ferris State finished 1-2 on the power play while the Lakers went 2-4 for the evening. The Lakers had a 37-23 advantage in shots on goal for the game. Ferris State freshman goaltender Carter McPhail made 33 saves in the loss for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State is back in action on Friday (Nov. 8) at Lawson Ice Arena to take on the Western Michigan Broncos in Kalamazoo at 7:07 p.m. (ET). FSU then hosts the Broncos the following night, on Saturday (Nov. 9) starting at 8:07 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena.
