Ferris State Scores Late Goal To Top Bemidji State On Veterans Appreciation Night

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team picked up a 2-1 win in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play over the Bemidji State Beavers on Friday (Nov. 15) on Veterans Appreciation night at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State junior forward Coale Norris scored twice to boost the Bulldogs as senior goaltender Austin Shaw made 26 stops in the win.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 17:54 of the first frame when Norris made a hip-high deflection for his third goal of the year on a shot from senior defensemen Joe Rutkowski (6) and Nate Kallen (4), giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

The Beavers responded at 2:21 of the second period on a power play line rush when Adam Brady chipped a show by Shaw on the backhand. 

The two teams played into the third deadlocked at 1-1 until Norris broke the tie for his second goal of the game and fourth of the year at 14:10, turning a shot through the legs at BSU goaltender Zach Driscoll for the 2-1 Ferris State lead. Kallen (5) and Rutkowski (7) picked up their second assists of the game on Norris' second goal.

For Ferris State, Rutkowski led the way with a game-best seven blocked shots, while redshirt senior defenseman Zach Yoder added four.

Ferris State went 0-5 on the power play, while Bemidji State went 1-4. The Beavers had a 27-22 edge in shots on goal for the game.
