#3 Mavericks Top Bulldogs In Big Rapids

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 5-0 to the nationally #3 ranked Minnesota State Mavericks in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play on Friday (Jan. 10) at Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The Mavericks got on the board at 7:40 of the first period when Marc Michaelis scored from Jack McNeely and Walker Duehr at the left goal post for a 1-0 MSU lead.

Minnesota State added a pair of goals at 7:59 (Wyatt Aamodt) and 8:39 (Shorthanded - Michaelis) to take a 3-0 lead into the third period.

In the third period, Julian Napravnick tallied twice, first at 6:55 and later at 10:18 of the final period for the 5-0 final.

Minnesota State goaltender Dryden McKay earned the shutout and win on 19 stops, while Ferris State sophomore goaltender Roni Salmenkangas made 20 stops.

Ferris State stayed out of the box for the most part, taking just a pair of penalties. The Bulldogs killed both of the the Mavericks' nationally second-ranked power play attempts. Ferris State finished 0-5 on the man advantage.

The Bulldogs are back at home on Saturday (Jan. 11) at Ewigleben Ice Arena to finish the season series with the third-ranked Mavericks at 6:07 p.m. (ET).

Ferris State is hosting the Food For Five$ Canned Food Drive on Saturday. The first 400 fans to bring a non-perishable canned food item for donation will receive a $5.00 rate for tickets to see the Bulldogs take on the Mavericks on Saturday. Donations open at 11:45 a.m. (ET) in the concourse in front of the pro shop. All goods will be donated to Manna Pantry of Big Rapids.
