Bulldogs Nearly Double Huskies In Shots But Fall In Home Heartbreaker To Michigan Tech

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team nearly doubled up the Michigan Tech Huskies in shots, but fell 3-2 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) action on Friday (Feb. 14) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State senior forward Jason Tackett and senior defenseman Cameron Clarke each had two assists in the game for the Bulldogs.

Michigan Tech scored at 12:21 of the second period when Keegan Ford registered a goal on the man advantage for a 1-0 MTU lead on a shot from the top of the left wing circle and deflection.

However, just over a minute later, Ferris State freshman defenseman Connor Fedorek fired a shot through traffic that beat MTU goaltender Matt Jurusik for his first collegiate goal at 13:45 of the second period to even the game at 1-1. Clarke (4) and Tackett (11) picked up assists on Fedorek's first collegiate tally.

Early in the third period, Michigan Tech's Raymond Brice pushed the Huskies ahead at 2:25 of the final frame, making the score 2-1.Later, at 16:13, Tommy Parrottino scored to make it 3-1 Michigan Tech.

In the third period, at 17:12 of the final frame, Clarke got into traffic down the right lane and was tied up by two Huskies, but managed to fire a pass into the left wing circle where junior forward Marshall Moise rifled in his 10th goal of the season to cut the Huskies lead to 3-2.

Ferris State pushed hard and had a late power play, but a couple of pucks came just short of crossing the goal line as Jurusik and the Huskies defensive unit bent but didn't break at the end.

Ferris State held a 33-18 advantage in shots on goal in the game, but went 0-4 on the power play with six shots. Michigan Tech went 1-4 on the man advantage. Jurusik made 31 stops in the contest for Michigan Tech.
