Bulldogs Drop Road Contest At Bowling Green

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 6-1 to the Bowling Green Falcons on Friday (Feb. 21) at the Slater Family Ice Arena in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.

Ferris State sophomore goaltender Roni Salmenkangas made 16 stops in relief for the Bulldogs.

The Falcons opened the scoring when Cameron Wright scored at 8:51 of the opening frame for BGSU. Bowling Green's Adam Conquest added another for a 2-0 BGSU lead before the first period was out at 17:38.

Bowling Green scored three goals in less than two minutes in the second period, opening at 3:26 of the second period with a Justin Wells goal. Will Cullen followed for BGSU at 4:56, and Taylor Schneider at 5:15 of the second period for a 5-0 Falcon lead.

For the Falcons, Wright capped the scoring on the power play at 9:46 of the second frame.

Ferris State tallied late when freshman forward Brenden MacLaren tipped in a long shot by freshman defenseman Jake Willets for his third goal of the year. MacLaren scored his third goal of the year, while Willets picked up his team-best 18th assist of the year. Freshman forward Jason Brancheau earned his third assist of the year on the goal.

The Bulldogs were outshot 31-21 in the game. BGSU went 1-5 on the man advantage, while Ferris State went 0-3. Eric Dop picked up the win for Bowling Green with 20 stops, while senior goaltender Austin Shaw took the loss. Salmenkangas made 16 stops on 17 shots faced.

Ferris State returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 22) at 7:07 pm ET inside the Slater Family Ice Arena.
