Ferris State's Willets Named To WCHA All-Freshman Team

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) has announced that freshman defenseman Jake Willets was named to the WCHA All-Freshman team for his performance during the 2019-20 season.

Willets became the second straight freshman defenseman to lead the Bulldogs in scoring (Cooper Zech, 2018-19) this season with 22 points on three goals and 19 assists.

The Erie, Mich., native finished fifth in freshman point scoring and second among WCHA freshmen defensemen behind only Elias Rosen of Bemidji State. Among WCHA freshmen, he was tied for the league-lead in power play assists (12) and was second in power play points (13).

The freshman defenseman had 19 assists to lead all Bulldogs and dressed in each game for Ferris State this season.

Nationally, Willets was tied for fourth among freshman defenseman, two points back of BSU's Rosen and Dartmouth's Tanner Palocsik for the national lead. His 12 power play assists were also the national high (tied with Rosen) among freshman defensemen.

During his first campaign, Willets was among the WCHA players of the week for November 18, and rookie of the month for November.
