Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team made a late push, but fell 2-1 to the Michigan Tech Huskies on Tuesday (Feb. 9) at Ewigleben Ice Arena in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.

Ferris State freshman goaltender Logan Stein made 21 stops for the Bulldogs while junior forward Jake Transit scored the lone Bulldog goal.

The Huskies got out to an early 1-0 lead when Justin Misiak scored at the top of the crease at 7:36 of the first period.

While Ferris State held a 17-12 lead in shots on goal into the third period, Michigan Tech made it 2-0 when Blais Richartz fired in a one-timer for his first collegiate goal at 13:16 of the final period.

The Bulldogs made a late push when Transit batted a puck in off the goal post with 8.6 seconds remaining for his sixth goal of the year. Sophomore defenseman Blake Evennou (8) and senior forward Lucas Finner (9) had the helpers on the play to cut Michigan Tech's lead to 2-1. Ferris State scored with the extra attacker as Stein went off to the bench.

Ferris State drove into the offensive zone in the final moments of regulation, but the Huskies pushed the puck into the corner to drain the clock.

The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies in every period and finished with a 30-23 advantage in shots on goal. Both squads went without power play goals, with the Bulldogs holding the Huskies 0-2. Ferris State went 0-3 on the man advantage.

In goal, Blake Pietila picked up the win with 29 saves on 30 shots faced for mTU.
