Bulldogs Battle But Huskies Earn Winter Carnival Victory

Houghton, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 5-1 to the Michigan Tech Huskies Saturday (Feb. 13) in the Winter Carnival Championship in non-conference action.

Ferris State freshman goaltender Logan Stein made 41 stops for the Bulldogs.

The Huskies struck first when Alec Broetzman fired in a one-timer down low that trickled just over the goal line for a 1-0 MTU lead at 15:51 of the first period.

Late in the second period, Colin Swoyer scored at 14:14 to extend the Michigan Tech lead to 2-0 on a shot from the left inside face off hashmarks.

Early in the third period, the Bulldogs capitalized on a Husky turnover at the top of the zone. Senior forward Marshall Moise fired a low shot to the goal mouth where freshman forward Stepan Pokorny tipped in his first collegiate goal at 3:23 of the third period. Moise picked up his second assist of the year to cut the MTU lead to 2-1.

Six and a half minutes later, Logan Ganie scored off a rebound for the 3-1 Huskies lead at 9:59 of the third.

Later, at 14:39 of the third period, Ryland Mosley made it 4-1 MTU, followed by Trenton Bliss at 15:27 for the final margin.

The Huskies had a 46-21 lead in shots on goal for the night. Blake Pietila picked up the win with 19 stops for MTU in goal.

The Bulldogs are back in action against nationally-ranked Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 19-20) inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena in non-conference action. Both games get underway at 7:07 p.m. (ET).
