Bulldogs Fall To Tommies To Split Series

Mendota Heights, Minn. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team made a late charge, but fell 5-2 to the St. Thomas Tommies on Saturday (Oct. 23) in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play.

Ferris State senior forwards Liam MacDougall and Jake Transit scored in the contest for the Bulldogs.

The Tommies opened up a 5-0 lead by the early third period before the Bulldogs got on the board. Luke Manning opened the scoring at 8:04 of the first period for a 1-0 UST lead.

Later, at 13:46 of the first, Matthew Jennings snuck a shot past Ferris State sophomore goaltender Logan Stein for a 2-0 Tommie edge.

In the second, Trevor Zins scored the eventual game-winner at 25 seconds of the middle frame. Then, at 16:58 of the second, Manning tallied a second time. 

Early in the third, Kyler Grundy gave the Tommies a 5-0 lead at 3:02.

Ferris State responded at 11:45 of the third period when Jake Transit scored his second goal of the season, finishing a one-timer at the right goal post. Sophomore defenseman Ben Schultheis (1) and freshman forward Bradley Marek (2) picked up the helpers on the play.

Finally, at 14:22, senior forward Liam MacDougall's skate tipped in junior forward Dallas Tulik's shot for his second goal of the year. Tulik (5) and senior defenseman Brendon Michaelian (1) earned assists on the play.

In goal, Stein made 22 stops and allowed five goals on the night. In relief, junior goaltender Carter McPhail made two saves for the Bulldogs. UST goaltender Peter Thome made 27 stops for the win. Ferris State scored once on the power play on the night and held the Tommies scoreless.

Ferris State heads East to take on the Canisius Golden Griffins on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 29-30) at the Harbor Center with both puck drops set for 7 p.m. (ET) from Buffalo, NY.
