Bulldogs Carry Play But Fall To Lake Superior State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team outshot the Lake Superior State Lakers by a wide margin, but fell 3-0 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play on Friday (Dec. 3) inside Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State outshot Lake Superior State 35-22 in the contest and dominated the faceoff circle 33-23 on the night, but could not best LSSU goaltender Ethan Langenegger, who picked up the shutout victory for the Lakers.

The Lakers got in front midway through the second period when Josh Nixon scored on the power play at 8:21 of the second frame at the left goal post.

Then, only 1:21 later, the Lakers extended their lead at 9:42 when Brandon Puricelli beat Ferris State sophomore goaltender Logan Stein low on a three-on-two rush.

Later, at 17:22 of the third period, the Bulldogs pulled Stein for the extra attacker, but the Lakers beat the Bulldogs down the wall and Nixon scored the empty net goal for the 3-0 final.

Ferris State made a late charge, outshooting Lake Superior State 14-5 in the third period, but could not convert. 

The Lakers finished 1-3 on the power play while the Bulldogs went 0-1. Stein made 19 stops in the loss for Ferris State.
