Bulldogs Outfire Falcons But Fall 2-1 Saturday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team outshot the Bowling Green Falcons 42-29 for the night, but fell 2-1 Saturday (Dec. 11) at the Slater Family Ice Arena in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action.

Ferris State sophomore goaltender Logan Stein made 27 saves in the effort for the Bulldogs in a strong weekend in goal on the road to cap the pre-holiday schedule.

The Bulldogs got on the board first at 18:32 of the second period when freshman forward Nick Nardecchia cleaned up a rebound off a chance by senior forward Justin Michaelian and poked it into the gaping cage for a 1-0 Bulldog lead. The goal was Nardecchia's second of the year, while Justin Michaelian picked up his ninth assist of the year. Ferris State senior defenseman Brendon Michaelian earned his sixth assist of the year on the play.

In the third period, Bowling Green tallied twice to win the contest, first, at 9:07 when Nathan Burke scored on a face-off play to tie the game at 1-1. BGSU's Austen Swankler scored the winner at 16:08 of the third period for the 2-1 final.

While Ferris State outshot Bowling Green for the second-straight night, they ran into BGSU netminder Christian Stoever, who made 41 stops in the game to keep the Bulldogs off the board a second time.

On the man advantage, both teams finished 0-2 on the night in a low-penalty contest.

Ferris State settles for a split with Bowling Green on the road as they head for the holiday break having won two of their last three contests.

The Bulldogs will travel West to take on the Minnesota State Mavericks on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7-8, at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in Mankato, Minn., when CCHA action resumes.
