Postgame Highlights Video

Bemidji, Minn. - With 68 seconds to play, the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team took a 2-1 lead at Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) second place Bemidji State and walked out with a victory on Friday (Jan. 21) night at the Sanford Center for the win over the Beavers.

Ferris State freshman goaltender Noah Giesbrecht made 28 saves in an impressive showing for the win while freshman forwad Kaleb Ergang netted the winner at 18:52 of the third period.

The Bulldogs fell behind when Kyle Looft scored at 3:17 of the opening frame coming into the zone late for a 1-0 Bemidji State lead.

In the second period, Ferris State evened the score, finishing off a net-mouth scrum. Ferris State sophomore defenseman Ben Schultheis streaked down the left-wing hash mark and backhanded a pass into the low slot. Junior forward Dallas Tulik was on the door step and ripped his fifth goal of the season into the gaping cage at 15:13 of the second period. Schultheis picked up his third assist of the campaign on the play.

In the third period, Ferris State killed off a late Bemidji State power play to keep the game tied at 1-1.

With 1:08 to play, Ferris State sophomore forward Mitch Deelstra came down the left wing and punched a shot on goal. The rebound lay loose where Ergang picked up the puck and slid it past Bemidji State goaltender Mattias Sholl for the 2-1 lead.

The celebration was only stunted by a review on the play for potential goaltender interference, but was upheld upon review.

The Beavers finished with a 29-21 shots on goal advantage, though it was even at 17-17 through 40 minutes. Both teams went 0-3 on the man advantage.

For Ferris State, Giesbrecht picked up his second win of the year with a .965 save mark on the night. Bemidji State's Mattias Sholl made 19 stops in the loss for the Beavers.

The Bulldogs will aim for the sweep on Saturday (Jan. 22) at the Sanford Center with a 7:07 p.m. (ET) puck drop.
