Bulldogs Battle Back But Fall To Falcons Friday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey erased an early deficit, but fell 4-3 to Bowling Green in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action on Friday (Jan. 28) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State senior forward Justin Michaelian picked up a pair of points in the contest to lead the Bulldog offensive attack.

The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Ryan O'Hara scored at 2:57 of the opening frame, followed by Adam Pitters at 2:32 of the second frame.

The Bulldogs rolled out three-straight goals in the second period to take a 3-2 lead in the middle frame.

Ferris State began its attack when freshman forward Kaleb Ergang deflected in a point-shot by sophomore defenseman Ben Schultheis for his second goal of the year at 6:47 of the middle stanza. Schultheis picked up his fifth assist of the year on the play while junior forward Dallas Tulik earned his eighth.

The Bulldogs tied the game at 9:07 of the second period when Justin Michaelian burst out of the right wing corner and ripped a backhand shot top right for his eighth goal of the campaign, unassisted to knot the game at 2-2.

Out of a net-front scrum, Ferris State sophomore defenseman Luke Farthing gave the Bulldogs the lead at 15:55 of the second with his first goal of the season, punching in a rebound at the left goal post for a 3-2 Bulldog lead. Sophomore forward Stepan Pokorny (11) and Justin Michaelian (13) picked up the helpers on the play.

In the third period, the Falcons took advantage on the power play, scoring twice. Taylor Schneider tallied at 4:56 on the man advantage, followed by Evan Dougherty at 7:20 of the third period for the 4-3 final.

In goal, Ferris State freshman goaltender Noah Giesbrecht made 23 stops in the loss while Christian Stoever made 24 for the Falcons in the win.

Bowling Green finished 2-4 on the power play while Ferris State went 0-3. 

Ferris State searches for the weekend split Saturday (Jan. 29) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena with puck drop set for 6:07 p.m. (ET).
