Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team earned a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) standings point by forcing overtime, where they fell 3-2 to nationally #14 ranked Michigan Tech Friday (Feb. 18) inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State sophomore goaltender Logan Stein made 36 stops in the contest in a strong effort in his return to the line up.

In a wild first period that was flooded with penalties, the Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 early when Ryland Mosley scored a shorthanded four-on-three goal at 6:08 for the 1-0 MTU lead.

Ferris State responded emphatically despite taking a penalty on the play, creating a rare three-on-three regulation situation. Ferris State junior defenseman Blake Evennou ripped his third goal of the year in at 6:34 in the three-on-three to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period.

The Huskies opened the second period with a goal when Tristan Ashbrook ascored at 1:43 of the midddle frame for a 2-1 second period lead.

In the third period, Ferris State responded again when senior forward Marshall Moise was stuffed on a chance in tight. On the rebound, he moved into the left wing corner behind the goal line and ripped a centering pass that hit MTU goaltender Blake Pietila in the back of the left skate as he attempted to drop into the butterfly where it riccocheted into the open goal to tie the game at 2-2. Senior forward Ethan Stewart (7) and freshman forward Bradley Marek (9) picked up the helpers on the play at 7:22 of the third.

Michigan Tech responded with a flurry of chances, but were held off by Stein's stellar performance.

With 70 seconds remaining in regulation, the Bulldogs took a penalty, giving the nation's second-ranked power play a late opportunity. The Bulldogs again staved it off, forcing overtime, and killed off the remaining 50 seconds in overtime down four-on-three.

The Huskies eventually got the puck back after a stoppage and took the extra CCHA point on Michael Karow's overtime winner at 1:24 of the extra session.

Michigan Tech had a 39-28 edge in shots on goal, though Ferris State dominated the faceoff circle 41-24. The Huskies took seven penalties for 22 minutes while the Bulldogs took seven for 14 minutes.

Stein took the loss for Ferris State in goal on 36 stops, while Blake Pietila notched the win on 26 stops. Ferris State held the nation's second-ranked power play 0-6 on the night, while the Bulldogs went 0-3 against the country's fourth-best penalty kill.
