Marek Named to CCHA All-Rookie Team

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has named Ferris State freshman forward Bradley Marek (Big Rapids) to the CCHA's All-Rookie team.

Marek joins Bowling Green's Austen Swankler and Eric Parker, Lake Superior State's Josh Nixon, Minnesota State's Bennett Zmolek, Bemidji State's Mattias Sholl and Northern Michigan's Charlie Glockner among the CCHA's All-Rookie Honorees.

The Big Rapids native becomes the 11th Bulldog in program history to earn All-Rookie League honors, joining Pat Mazzoli (1991), Andy Roach (1994), Jason Blake (1995), Kevin Swider (1998), Mike Brown and Matt York (2002), Dan Riedel (2006), Kyle Schempp (2014), Corey Mackin (2016) and Cooper Zech (2019), with both Mackin and Zech earning league rookie of the year honors both pre and post-season.

On the year, Marek ranked tied for second among all CCHA freshmen in point-scoring on five goals (third-most) and eight assists (second-most) for 13 conference points.

Though strong offensively, Marek's prowess was his ability in both his own end of the ice and at center that paced the nation among freshmen. Marek had the third most face-off wins and third-highest faceoff winning percentage of all freshmen in the country. He was the only forward and only freshman in the CCHA's top 20 in blocked shots (31).

Marek also ranked tied for third among all CCHA skaters in power play goals with four and was one of only two freshman skaters in the top 20 in the entire league in that category.

Over the course of the entire season, Marek had 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points, second-most among Bulldogs skaters, and had seven power play goals, which was good for second-most among all CCHA skaters through the regular season. His 10 goals tied for the team lead, becoming the first freshman in school history to lead the Bulldogs in goal scoring.

One of the league's top defensive forwards, Marek led all CCHA forwards in blocked shots with 44 and tied for second among all Bulldog skaters. His two game-winning tallies was tied with multiple Bulldogs for most on the team.
