
Ferris State Hockey Falls 2-0 to Bowling Green in First Road CCHA Game
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team traveled to Bowling Green State University for their first road game in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play Friday (Nov. 1) and suffered a 2-0 setback against the Falcons in the Slater Family Ice Arena.
The Bulldogs (2-5-2, 1-2-0 CHA) split their CCHA opening series last weekend against Bemidji State in Big Rapids before traveling to Bowling Green. In Friday's loss to the Falcons, Ferris State got a strong performance from Noah West between the pipes, who stopped 29-of-31 (.935) shots.
FSU was held without a goal for the third time this season. They had 30 shots on goal and 55 total shot attempts, but were unable to get a puck past BGSU goaltender Cole Moore, who shutout the Bulldogs for the second time in his career.
Bowling Green scored its first goal of the night at 18:31 in the first period. Maxwell Martin scored off a rebound chance and gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead late in the period. Seth Fyten and Gustav Stjernberg assisted Martin's second collegiate goal.
In the first period, BGSU had 16 shots on goal with West making 15 saves for FSU. The Falcons also dominated the faceoff circle with 14 wins compared to two wins for the Bulldogs.
Neither team scored in the second period despite FSU taking 12 shots on goal and BGSU firing eight on target. The Bulldogs had three power play opportunities and the Falcons had two, with one of FSU's power play tries carrying into the third.
BGSU killed the remaining 39 seconds of Jackson Niedermayer's interference penalty to start the third period, and then scored its second goal at 4:03. Matvei Kabanov scored his first goal as a Falcon, while Ethan Scardina and Ryan O'Hara collected assists.
FSU pulled West for the extra attacker late in the third period, but was unable to register a goal, ultimately falling 2-0.
For the game, Ferris State was a perfect 6-6 on the penalty kill and went 0-4 on power play tries. FSU won 15 draws compared to BGSU's 37. Ferris State also blocked five shots.
Individually, Trevor Taulien led the way for Ferris State with seven shots on goal. Zach Faremouth, Jacob Badal and Cole Burtch each took four shots on target. Faremouth was the only Bulldog to win more than 50% of his draws, going 7-6 on the circle. Burtch was also penalized twice in the game.
Ferris State will look to bounce back Saturday (Nov. 2) as the Bulldogs wrap up the road series against Bowling Green. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. (ET) in the Slater Family Ice Arena, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunny 97.3 FM.
