Shoudy Scores Twice as Ferris State Hockey Rolls to 5-1 Road Win Over Bemidji State

Bemidji, Minn. – Junior defenseman Travis Shoudy had a big three-point effort for the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team Friday (Jan. 31) as he led the Bulldogs to a 5-1 win over Bemidji State University at the Sanford Center in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play.

The Bulldogs (9-16-2, 8-11 CCHA) have now won three of their past four games and have an opportunity to go for the sweep against Bemidji State tomorrow night. In Friday's win, Shoudy scored twice, and both Jacob Badal and Cole Burtch recorded two points.

Noah West had a strong performance between the pipes for FSU, stopping 31-of-32 shots faced and earning his ninth win of the season.

In addition to scoring three points, Shoudy also finished +4 and blocked two shots. It was his second time this year scoring three points in a game as he scored twice and assisted against St. Thomas Jan. 10.

Badal scored the game's first goal at 2:48 in period one. He ripped a wrist shot from the left-wing wall that beat BSU goaltender Mattias Sholl to the top-right corner. Badal's third of the year gave FSU an early 1-0 lead, and Zach Faremouth collected his third assist.

Shoudy put Ferris State up 2-0 at 9:48. He worked his way from the left point down into the circle where he took a shot and scored his fourth goal of the year. Kaleb Ergang, who played in his 100th career game, and Burtch assisted.

BSU scored its lone goal at 10:13 courtesy of Eric Martin. The Beavers had an odd man rush where Martin finished a shot on the back side from Kirklan Irey. Irey and Reilly Funk assisted.

Burtch scored at 17:25 in the second, putting FSU back up by two goals. Caiden Gault sent a pass from below the goal line to Burtch in the slot, and his shot beat Sholl for FSU's third goal. Burtch collected his fifth goal, Gault got his fifth assist and Shoudy dished his eighth helper.

Jack Silich scored his second goal of the year at 8:12 in the third period, putting Ferris State up 4-1. Badal chased the puck down in the right-wing corner and sent a pass back to Silich who fired a one-time shot from the circle past Sholl. Badal collected his fourth assist and Logan Heroux tallied his eighth.

Shoudy scored an empty-net goal at 13:41, sealing FSU's 5-1 victory with his fifth goal of the year and third point of the night.
