Big Rapids, Mich. – Sophomore goaltender Martin Lundberg became the first Norwegian-born player to record a victory in NCAA DI hockey history Saturday (Nov. 8) as he powered Ferris State Hockey to its first Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) points with a 2-0 shutout win over Augustana.

It was Lundberg's first career victory and FSU's first shutout of the 2025-26 season. The Bulldogs (2-8-0, 1-3-0 CCHA) also snapped a six-game losing streak and collected their first points in CCHA play with the win.

Ferris State scored both its goals in the first period. Riley Wallack lit the lamp for the third time this season at 8:15. Valtteri Piironen had a takeaway at center ice and passed to Tanner Rowe who split the Viking defense and got to the goal line. He then found Wallack on the backside for a shot past AU goaltender Josh Kotai. Piironen collected his first point as a Bulldog while Rowe got his second assist of the year.

Max Itagaki gave FSU a 2-0 advantage at 9:12 with his second goal this season. Gavin Best skated up the right-wing wall and found Nic Belpedio at the point. He passed back to Best who took a shot that Kotai saved, but Itagaki was right on the doorstep and finished the rebound chance. Best and Belpedio both got their second helpers of the year.

Ferris State scored the first goal in Friday's game against Augustana as well, but the Vikings responded with two goals in the second period that propelled them to a victory. On Saturday, FSU flipped the script and controlled play in the second period, leaning on seven early saves from Lundberg and seven blocked shots through the period to keep Augie off the board.

The Vikings pulled Kotai at 16:03 as they attempted a late comeback. Lundberg made three saves and the Bulldogs blocked four shots against the extra attacker and preserved a shutout victory.

Lundberg finished with 24 saves in his first career shutout. He faced six shots in the first period and nine in each of the final two frames. On the other side, Kotai finished 18-20 on save attempts in a losing effort.

The Bulldogs finished the game 0-2 on the power play and 1-1 on the penalty kill. FSU had 17 blocked shots compared to five for AU and won 20-38 (.526) faceoffs. Augustana outshot Ferris State 24-20.

Piironen blocked six shots to lead the Bulldogs defensively. Xavier Jean-Louis contributed four blocked shots and both Wallack and Belpedio blocked two. Carter Rapalje led the team with five shots on goal and Wallack paced the squad with seven faceoff wins.

The Bulldogs will head to Bowling Green for a road series against the Falcons next weekend beginning Friday (Nov. 14) at Slater Family Ice Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. (ET) with pregame coverage beginning on Sunny 97.3 FM at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
