FSU Wraps Up Regular-Season With Victory
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis
team wrapped up its regular-season slate with an impressive 8-1
triumph over West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on Wednesday
(April 14) afternoon at Allendale, Mich.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 10-6 overall this campaign
and completed Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(GLIAC) regular-season play with a second-place finish and a 6-1
league record.
The Bulldogs will be seeded second for the 2010 GLIAC Tournament,
which takes place this Saturday and Sunday (April 17-18) in
Midland, Mich.
FSU, which is ranked 38th in the current Campbell's Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) Division II National Rankings, swept the
doubles round and captured five of the six singles flights in
dropping the Lakers to 11-10 overall and 3-4 in conference
action.
Two of the three doubles matches were determined by identical 8-6
scores with the top tandem of senior Kyle Revall
and junior Steven
Roberts posting a win along with the number three
pairing of freshman Arin Enge and
senior Ahmet
Demir.
FSU's number two doubles team consisting of sophomore Justin Hermes and Jack Swan were
8-4 winners in their match.
In singles play, the Bulldogs' lone loss came at the second
position where Demir dropped a three-set decision to GVSU's Philipp
Claus. Four of Ferris' five singles wins came in
straight-sets with the other being determined in three as Hermes
beat Josh Kazdan at the number five spot in the lineup.
The victory was FSU's seventh in its last eight outings to date
this season.
