FSU Wraps Up Regular-Season With Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team wrapped up its regular-season slate with an impressive 8-1 triumph over West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on Wednesday (April 14) afternoon at Allendale, Mich.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 10-6 overall this campaign and completed Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season play with a second-place finish and a 6-1 league record.

The Bulldogs will be seeded second for the 2010 GLIAC Tournament, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday (April 17-18) in Midland, Mich.

FSU, which is ranked 38th in the current Campbell's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II National Rankings, swept the doubles round and captured five of the six singles flights in dropping the Lakers to 11-10 overall and 3-4 in conference action.

Two of the three doubles matches were determined by identical 8-6 scores with the top tandem of senior Kyle Revall and junior Steven Roberts posting a win along with the number three pairing of freshman Arin Enge and senior Ahmet Demir.

FSU's number two doubles team consisting of sophomore Justin Hermes and Jack Swan were 8-4 winners in their match.

In singles play, the Bulldogs' lone loss came at the second position where Demir dropped a three-set decision to GVSU's Philipp Claus.  Four of Ferris' five singles wins came in straight-sets with the other being determined in three as Hermes beat Josh Kazdan at the number five spot in the lineup.
