Men's Tennis Opens GLIAC Play With Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team kicked off its 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) slate with a 7-2 win over Lake Superior State on Friday (March 18) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs built a 2-1 lead following doubles play with LSSU's lone victory coming at the number one flight. 

In singles action, the Lakers managed to win the top singles position, but Ferris captured the remaining five singles spots, including four in straight-sets, to pull out the win.

Ferris State improved to 6-2 overall this season by winning its league opener while the Lakers fell to 1-11 overall and 0-1 in the GLIAC.

The Bulldogs are currently ranked 40th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II National Poll along with sixth in the Midwest Region.

FSU continues its league-opening weekend homestand by hosting Michigan Tech on Saturday (March 19) with match time set for 10 a.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
