Bulldogs Fall In GLIAC Semifinals To NU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team took the early advantage, but in the end nationally-ranked Northwood pulled out a 5-3 victory to reach the championship match in the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament.

The fourth-seeded Bulldogs led 2-1 after doubles play in Saturday's (April 16) league tournament semifinal match at the Midland (Mich.) Community Tennis Center before the Timberwolves responded by winning four of the five completed singles flights to take the win.

Northwood, which has won 17 consecutive GLIAC Championships, advanced to Sunday's (April 17) title match against number two seed Northwood while the Bulldogs will face third-seeded Grand Valley State for third place.  Both matches begin at 9 a.m. (ET).

Ferris seniors Kyle Revall and Steven Roberts teamed up for a 8-6 win at the number one doubles flight while junior Jack Swan and sophomore Tyler Marengo were 9-7 winners at the second flight in doubles competition.

However, Roberts was the lone Bulldog player to post a singles win as he claimed a 7-6 (0-2), 6-4 win versus the Timberwolves' Jean Menard at the third position.

NU improved to 14-4 overall this campaign with the win as the Bulldogs dropped to 13-8 overall on the year.  The Timberwolves are listed 21st nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II poll with FSU 41st overall.
