Ferris State's Laurent Galarneau Reaches Title Match Before Falling In ITA Regionals

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team wrapped up play in the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Great Lakes Regional Championships on Sunday (Sept. 22) at the Orchard Hills Club in Grand Rapids.

Bulldog junior Laurent Galarneau advanced to the championship match in the singles draw after beating Ohio Dominican's Richie Kruenberg by a score of 7-6 (2), 6-2 in the semifinals, but fell to Armand Levandi 6-1, 6-1 in the title match.

Galarneau had reached the semifinals with a pair of wins on Saturday in day two action after capturing two wins in Friday's first day of action in the "A" championship singles draw.

On Saturday, Ferris State's Otto Keresztes dropped his consolation match of the "A" singles draw by a score of 4-6, 6-3 (3) to bow out of the competition.

In the "B" singles draw, both Ferris State's Aaron Dial and Laurent Mailloux had reached the quarterfinals on Friday after posting three wins each, but both fell in the fourth round and did not reach the semifinals in Saturday's action.

Ferris State's Galarneau and Sergei Laza moved into the third round with two wins on Friday in the "A" doubles championship draw. However, they suffered an 8-3 setback in the quarterfinals and did not reach the semifinal round.

The Bulldogs are next slated to take part in the Toledo Rocket Invitational on Oct. 4-5 in Toledo, Ohio, to wrap up the fall portion of the 2013-14 campaign.
