Men's Tennis Continues Fall Season With Doubles Play At GVSU Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team continued its fall season by taking part in the 2014 Grand Valley State Invitational held over the weekend in the Grand Rapids area.

The event was cut down to a single day of competition at the Ramblewood Tennis Club due to weather conditions which impacted available court times. A total of four brackets were contested, all in doubles play as the singles round was cancelled.

Along with FSU and host GVSU, the West Michigan field also included participants from Calvin and Davenport.

In the "A" doubles flight, the Bulldog tandem of Tyler Bridges and Zachary Grabovic won their opening two matches to reach the final and earn runner-up honors. Meanwhile, the pairing of Laurent Galarneau and Aaron Dial won their first match before falling to the eventual champions in the semifinals. They bounced back to take third place.

Ferris State's Jordan Helderman and Renan Baldi also picked up an opening-round win in the "B" doubles flight before falling in the semifinals. They placed fourth overall after bowing out in the third-place match.

FSU's Raleigh Grossbaum and Simon Levy also competed in the "B" doubles flight and fell in the first round, but battled back to win two matches in the "B" consolation round.

Ferris State will wrap up the fall portion of its 2014-15 schedule by competing in the Detroit Titan Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 11) in the Motor City.
