Ferris State Men's Tennis Drops Spring Opener At Division I Toledo

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team officially opened its 2015 campaign with a 5-2 setback to NCAA Division I Toledo (Ohio) on Friday (Feb. 6) night at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Maumee, Ohio.

The Bulldogs won one of the three doubles flights in their spring debut under head coach Chad Berryhill against the Rockets as Toledo jumped out to the early edge. The doubles round counted as a single point in the team score per NCAA Division I regulations.

In singles competition, the Bulldogs recorded wins at the second and fourth flights in the lineup, but the Rockets managed to take the first, third, fifth and sixth positions to pull out the win.

Ferris State's singles victories came from newcomer Vasil Surduk at the number two spot in the lineup along with Tyler Bridges and fourth singles. Surduk won a three-setter while Bridges pulled out his win in straight-sets. 

Both Surduk and Bridges also teamed up in doubles competition to post a 6-3 victory at the second spot. 

A total of seven different Bulldog players saw action in the match.

Ferris State returns to Michigan to play a non-league road match on Saturday (Feb. 7) in Grand Rapids against Aquinas College. Match time is set for 3 p.m. (ET).
