Ferris State Men's Tennis Wins Four Titles With Strong Showing At Warhawk Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team had a strong showing to its 2015-16 campaign as the Bulldogs competed in the Warhawk Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 11-12) in Whitewater, Wis.

The Bulldogs captured four singles championships over the weekend and six of the nine Bulldog players competing reached the finals in their respective flights, including one with an All-FSU final.

In the number one singles draw, FSU's Vasil Surduk reached the final before falling in three sets. Overall, he went 2-1 in the competition.

Ferris State newcomer Till von Winning emerged victorious at the number two singles draw as he claimed the bracket championship with three-straight wins.

The Bulldogs' Steward Sell won his opening match before falling in the semifinals at the number three singles draw and then dropping a close third-place match to finish with a 1-2 mark.

Meanwhile, at the fourth singles position, Ferris State's Matt Sinclair dropped his first match, but bounced back to win his next outing before dropping the consolation final. He was also 1-2 overall.

Simon Levy competted at the fifth singles flight and won the bracket title with three consecutive wins at the UWW courts. He beat teammate Raleigh Grossbaum in the final as he went 2-1 overall.

FSU's Conner Hunt posted a 2-1 mark while claiming third place in the number six singles draw for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs' Rob Camplin went 3-0 to win the number seven draw with Connor Douglas taking the number eight draw with a 3-0 mark.

In doubles action, Surduk and von Winning claimed the consolation final with a 2-1 mark at the top doubles flight. Sell and Maiz Sinclair recorded a 2-1 record to take third place at the second draw while Hunt and Camplin posted a 1-2 ledger at the third flight.

Finally, in the fourth singles flight, the tandem of Grossbaum and Douglas/Levy paired up to win three matches and the title.

The Bulldogs next will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regionals on Sept. 19-21 in Grand Rapids.
