Ferris State Men's Tennis Opens Florida Trip With Split In Twinbill Monday
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad opened its spring break trip to Florida by splitting a pair of matches on Monday (March 7) in a doubleheader held in Lakeland, Fla.
The Bulldogs fell on the road to Florida Southern at the Warden Tennis Center in a tighly-contested 5-4 battle in the first match of the day.
However, FSU then came back in evening action and topped Post University 8-1 in a neutral site, non-league tilt between two regionally-ranked squads. Post entered the contest ranked 10th in the East Region.
Ferris State, which is ranked 32nd overall in the country along with third in the latest Midwest Regional listing, currently owns a 7-2 overall record to date this year following the split. The rare twinbill was FSU's second of the season.
In the opener versus Florida Southern, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-1 lead following the doubles round with victories at the second and third flights. But, FSC bounced back to capture four of the six singles flights, including a pair of three-setters at the first and second spots in the lineup.
The second match, though, belonged to the Bulldogs. FSU swept the doubles round and the lone setback in singles play was a very close 7-6, 7-6 decision at the number one flight.
Ferris State, which will play a total of five matches this week on the swing thru the Sunshine State, returns to the countr on Tuesday (March 8) against West Liberty State in Tampa. Match time begins at 10:30 a.m. (ET).
