Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad notched an exciting 6-3 victory over West Liberty (W.Va.) in a showdown of nationally-ranked teams on Tuesday (March 8) in Tampa, Fla.
The nationally 32nd-ranked Bulldogs won the neutral site tilt against 50th-ranked West Liberty to improve to 8-2 this season. It was also the second triumph in three matches over the past two days in the Sunshine State.
FSU took a 2-1 advantage in the doubles round with victories at the top two flights in the lineup. The number one tandem of Vasil Surduk and Nur Admin Ramdani Iswan topped West Liberty's nationlly 12th-ranked doubles tandem of Andrew Ponder and Santiago Gutierrez by a 8-6 score.
In singles action, Surduk beat the nation's 12th-ranked player in Baptiste Perrin by a 6-3, 6-1 score. His win was one of four in the singles round for the Bulldogs as FSU also claimed wins at the third, fifth and sixth spots in the lineup.
West Liberty entered the match ranked first in the Atlantic Region with FSU third overall in the current Midwest Regional Rankings.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday (March 9) as FSU visits Saint Leo (Fla.) for a 2 p.m. (ET) non-conference match. The Bulldogs then wrap up their trip to Florida on Thursday (March 10) against Methodist in Kissimmee starting at 10 a.m. (ET).
