Ferris State Men's Tennis Repeats As GLIAC's Outright Regular Season Champion!

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team officially clinched its second consecutive outright Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular Season Championship as the Bulldogs posted an 8-1 home win over Tiffin on Sunday (April 24) to complete league play unbeaten at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs, who had clinched at least a share of the title with a league home win over Walsh on Saturday, left no doubt in Sunday's regular season finale as FSU handled the Dragons to improve to 19-4 overall and a perfect 9-0 in the GLIAC this year.

A year ago, in 2015, Ferris State had won its first league regular-season championship since 1999 and first outright crown since 1994. With this year's championship, the men's tennis squad became the fifth FSU team to win a conference title this season, joining football, volleyball, men's basketball and hockey teams. The squad is also the fourth of the group to repeat as back-to-back champions this year.

Prior to last year, Northwood had won the last 20 regular-season crowns in a row dating back to 1995, including a share of the title with FSU in 1999. Either Northwood or Ferris State have won the GLIAC Championship every year since 1982. The two schools shared the crown in 1982 before FSU had a 12-year run as the outright champion prior to the NU stretch.

The Dragons, who entered the weekend with only a single loss in league play this season, fell behind 2-1 following doubles play as FSU took the top two flights.

However, in singles action, the Bulldogs dominated against Tiffin as nationally 36th-ranked FSU swept all six flights, including five in straight-sets.

Tiffin dropped to 14-12 overall and 6-3 in the GLIAC with the loss.

The Bulldogs will be the top seed for the GLIAC Tournament, which takes place Friday thru Sunday (April 29-May 1) at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland. Action gets underway with first round play on Friday night at 6:45 p.m. (ET) followed by second-round play Saturday at 3:45 p.m. and Sunday's final day of action starting at 8:15 a.m.

Official tournament matchups will be announced by the GLIAC office soon.
