Men's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Slate At ITA Regional Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team wrapped up weekend action at the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships on Sunday (Sept. 17) in Grand Rapids.

The Bulldogs' doubles tandem of Steward Sell and Nur Adim Ramdani Iswan reached the championship match in the "A" bracket and earned runner-up honors after falling to Drury's Sebastien Amato and Grega Kokalj. They had won four consecutive matches prior to the title match.

Meanwhile, FSU's Austin DeBruyne and Mathis Guerre teamed up to reach the championship round in the "A" doubles consolation round before suffering an 8-4 setback versus Grand Valley State's Alex van de Steenoven and Sebastien Lescoulie. The duo won three matches in a row before the loss.

Sell also reached the quarterfinals in the "A" singles consolation round before bowing out of the tournament and was the Bulldogs' top finisher in singles competition over the weekend of action.

A total of six different FSU players took part in the annual weekend event which features many of the top players from across the region.

Action took place both at Grandville Middle School and Lamar Park in the Grand Rapids area.

The competition was the final slated outing for the Bulldog men's squad this fall. FSU has reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight each of the past two seasons, including a final four finish in 2016.

The Bulldogs will resume competition when the spring schedule unfolds in February.
