Ferris State Holds Onto First Place In GLIAC Standings With Big Men's Tennis Rivalry Win
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad, which is ranked #23 nationally, held onto first place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings as the Bulldogs capped off a big weekend with a decisive 7-2 triumph over West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on Saturday (March 31) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.
The Bulldogs beat the Lakers for their 11th-straight win this year on the heels of an identical 7-2 road win at Northwood on Thursday. FSU is now 14-2 overall and still unbeaten at 4-0 in the GLIAC to date.
Ferris State swept the doubles in round with three impressive victories in building an early 3-0 edge against the Lakers. FSU took the first flight 8-5 before winning the second spot 8-4 and the third 8-3 in the doubles round.
During singles action, GVSU's nationally 72nd-ranked Sebastian Lescoulle was a straight-set winner at the top singles flight and the Lakers also picked up a win at six singles, but Ferris State swept the second thru fifth positions in the lineup to earn the triumph.
The Bulldogs got a three-set win from Daniil Tarantinov at three singles along with straight-set wins from Steward Sell (#2) along with Austin Debruyne (#4) and Pablo Munoz Baroja (#5).
Ferris State is next slated to face Edinboro (Pa.) in non-league action on the road Friday (April 6) in Ohio before playing a pair of league road outings at Tiffin and Wayne State on Saturday and Sunday (April 7-8), respectively.
After Saturday's action, the Bulldogs are currently one of two remaining teams left unbeaten in league action as FSU is 4-0 and Davenport 3-0 in the GLIAC.
