Top-Seeded Ferris State Advances To GLIAC Tournament Championship Match!

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 20th-ranked Ferris State University men's tennis team will have an opportunity to defend its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship as the Bulldogs advanced to the league title match by downing Davenport 5-0 on Saturday (April 21) in semifinal-round action at the league event in Midland.

Top-seeded Ferris State, which captured the league's regular-season title this year, will now square off against second-seeded Wayne State in the league final on Sunday (April 22) morning starting at 8:15 a.m. (ET) at the Greater Midland Community Tennis Center.

After receiving a first-round bye, the Bulldogs made quick work of the fifth-seeded Panthers. FSU took a 3-0 lead following the doubles round and swept the first two completed singles flights to move to 19-2 overall this season.

The Bulldogs got singles wins from Austin DeBruyne at the fourth flight and Mathis Guerre at the number six spot in the first two completed singles contests to complete the sweep.

In doubles action, all three FSU pairings were victorious with the closest score an 8-6 decision at the third flight.

The Bulldogs are the two-time defending league tournament champions. A year ago, Ferris State captured both the GLIAC Regular-Season and Tournament titles in the same campaign for the second consecutive year and will look to make it three consecutive years with a victory in the finale.

This season, FSU officially claimed its fourth-straight league regular-season crown by finishing GLIAC play with a perfect 8-0 record this year.

The Bulldogs, who have currently won their last 16 matches in a row to date this year heading into Sunday's title match, are also presently the number three team in the Midwest Region.

FSU won a tight 5-4 league decision on the road over the Warriors in the only regular-season meeting between the two GLIAC Tournament Championship contestants this year.
