Bulldog Men's Tennis Puts Up Strong Effort Against #10 Lynn University In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich, - The Ferris State University men's tennis team began its annual spring break trip with a strong performance against nationally 10th-ranked Lynn University on Monday (March 9) in a 4-1 setback in Winter Haven, Fla.

While the Fighting Knights won the doubles point, the Bulldogs won one of the matches in the doubles round and then got a singles triumph from Mathis Guerre at the number three flight in straight-sets versus the nation's 10th-ranked squad.

"We had many opportunities, but couldn't capitalize in the end" said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "It was our first match outdoors in five months and against one of the top 10 teams in the country.

"Overall, it was a great learning experience and we'll be better tomorrow because of it," he added.

Lynn stretched its winning streak to six consecutive matches with the triumph and now holds a 9-1 overall mark to date this season.

During the doubles round, the Bulldog tandem of Josh McDermott and Cedric Rupa earned a 6-4 win at two doubles. The Bulldogs' number one team of Guerre and Pablo Munoz Baroja narrowly fell at the top flight by a 7-6 (7-4) score.

In addition to Guerre's win at three singles, Ferris State's Alec Olivier also took Lynn's Rayane Alami to three sets at the number four flight. Both of the final two singles positions went unfinished as the match had been determined.

Ferris State, which has battled strong regional and national competition early this spring, will get right back to action on Tuesday (March 10) as FSU takes on Rollins in Florida at 3 pm. (ET). The Bulldogs will also play Saint Leo (Fla.) on Thursday and Eckerd (Fla.) on Friday during the spring trip.
